Services

Our range of services includes all aspects of hydrology and water resources management in the context of rivers and water systems. Of particular importance are all aspects that result from – or for – power plants and power plant chains.

We have extensive experience in the operation and control of power plants as well as general controlled systems and structures that are relevant for the management of rivers and river systems.

Two perspectives are important for this, namely that we can find hydropower plants on practically all larger Central European rivers and that – with objectives changing over time – robust strategies are required for the safe, stable and sustainable use of hydropower.

Against this background, we use scientific and expert approaches to develop our projects on water management and environmental issues. We work out the basics, develop water management software and support the transfer of knowledge in the context of public relations, training courses and training systems.

Our customers and clients are mainly federal ministries and state governments, power plant companies and companies in the field of automation. Our regional focus is on projects in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and nearby European countries.

The core themes of our services include three focal points:

Project development
Project management

Many of our projects start with a broadly worded objective. Starting from this point, we develop – in close collaboration with our clients – detailed concepts for assessments, analyses and water resource software.
Especially software development projects often demand clarity, lucid illustrations, and solid applications as a starting point. This simplifies the decision-making process.
Beside the technical and administrative aspects, the competent handling of publicity events and legal regulations are important aspects of our work.

Numeric modelling
simulation

Our numeric models are complex and extensive. They are typically created for large sections of rivers and applied across many different issues. To give clear examples, the models of the Danube are used for online flood forecasting, for water-resource-analyses, and the display of potentially flooded areas. The model for the River Main serves as a planning and test setting for the development of a completely new control concept.
Almost all our models consider the operations of HPPs and the flooding of forelands. 95% of all models are used to visually represent highly dynamic events.

Assessments,
mediation & moderation

The discussion and the depiction of hydrological data is as important as the technical analysis and assessment of water resource interrelationships. In the case of contrary interests, we like to combine our hydrological knowledge with our mediative competencies in order to find a reasonable compromise.
Our assessments are typically focused on complex, hydrological questions and we are very proud, that our assessments have been requested repeatedly for major legal questions.

Software

Our portfolio includes standard products and individual software solutions.

Our software systems Flux.DSS/Designer and Flux.Operational have been used for two decades in the context of flood forecasting on many large Central European rivers (e.g. Lech, Inn, Danube, Salzach, Enns, March, Leitha). Flux Virtual River forms the core system in training simulators and test systems.

Individually developed solutions are used, for example, for the Gabcicovo inflow forecast, the damage pattern forecast on the Danube or for flood warning and management systems.

A special focus is on simulation and training systems, which we develop specifically for our customers. The basis for the hydrodynamic modeling is the Virtual River system. For the user interfaces, we rely on basic components that we configure and adapt exactly according to customer requirements.
